SERVICES

Speech Pathologists are allied health professionals who specialise in the assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders. Their expertise extends across all stages of life.

At Aura, we have a special interest in providing care and support for individuals with speech, feeding, and orofacial myology disorders. Our team also focuses on assisting children with early language delays. By providing only a select range of practice areas, we ensure that our clinicians have extensive knowledge and experience in these specific areas of speech pathology. This allows us to provide targeted and tailored interventions that are specifically designed to address the unique needs of our clients. We are also able to build strong collaborative relationships with other professionals and specialists in these practice areas. This allows for seamless coordination and integration of care, ensuring a holistic approach to treatment and the best possible outcomes for our clients. Please see below for more information on these range of practice areas.

SPEECH

Speech refers to the way we say sounds in words. We support speech sound delays and disorders by conducting assessments and therapy. If your child has difficulty producing a sound, or swapping one sound for another, we can identify these errors, and work with your child towards clear and confident speech.

LANGUAGE

Language is made up of both receptive skills and expressive skills. Receptive language refers to how we comprehend and understand words and sentences. Expressive language refers to how we use words and sentences.

Orofacial Myology

Orofacial myofunctional therapy is a specialised form of therapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of the muscles and functions of the face, mouth, and throat. It involves exercises and techniques to correct improper oral habits, such as tongue thrusting, incorrect swallowing patterns, and dysfunctional breathing. The goal of orofacial myofunctional therapy is to improve the balance and coordination of these muscles, leading to enhanced speech, swallowing, and overall oral function.

FEEDING

Feeding therapy using an airway-focused approach involves evaluating and addressing any potential underlying airway concerns that may be affecting a person’s ability to eat and swallow. This may include ruling out anatomical issues related to the airway, considering referrals to Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialists for further examination, and implementing targeted interventions to improve feeding and swallowing skills, ensuring optimal respiratory function and oral skills during mealtimes.
